The Fashionable Life: Building a Professional Wardrobe

Every woman in America has a common ground (over the age of 24) which is waking up in the morning and going to work! Whether you are a stay at home mom or a woman in Corporate America, we are all pursuing some form of motivation or career aspiration. In my case, I am a full time teacher during the school year, and it's important that I present myself in a manner that's polished and professional.

With that in mind, women between the ages of 25 - 35 struggle with building a professional wardrobe. The life-cycle of our outer image drastically changes between sorority life, dating, and attending college football games. From wearing sweatpants and jeans, the change imerges after college and the "social butterfly" needs to wear a suit, blazer, and pair of sheer tone hosiery. And this can be a difficult transition if you struggle with keeping your individual style while upholding the image of your organization.

pencil skirts are a must (tweed, jersey, denim, polyester/rayon)

Below, I have showcased a few pieces from my professional wardrobe. And although I am a fan of luxury pieces, I also believe in living within your means and saving something for a rainy day (not seeing my entire paycheck in my closet.) I pulled some pieces from one of my favorite, local retailers, New York and Company. After I had my son, I began to shop in their store for professional pieces simply because they are actively mailing GREAT coupons (which my husband is never happy about) and I receive a fantastic teacher discount! Nevertheless, there are other great stores to shop for professional clothing but the key is to build a professional wardrobe (not necessarily about the store.) Below, I've provided a few tips for looking "sharp" without looking like a drab:
