Cleopatra calamity: Kim Kardashian fails to pull off Egyptian queen look at Vogue Awards

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Unflattering: Kim Kardashian, pictured with designer Zac Posen, looked a little thick around the middle in her Cleopatra-esque dress

There's no doubt she has an amazing figure.

But Kim Kardashian's choice of dress at the Vogue Awards last night did little for her world-famous curves.

The full-length Cleopatra-esque gown - which could have come straight out of Egypt, circa 40BC - was ruched around the middle, making the reality star appear thick-waisted

And it's high-necked jewelled collar made her bust look simply matronly, not sexy.

No doubt American Vogue editor Anna Wintour would have had something to say about the creation.

The formidable style icon - who was allegedly the inspiration for Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada - kept a watchful eye over her guests at the Fashion Fund awards in New York.

Also in attendance at the charity fundraiser was British actress Carey Mulligan, who was spotted in tears on the red carpet.

Her emotional outburst was nothing to do with her recent split from Shia LaBeouf, however - she was simply overjoyed after a call from film director Baz Luhrmann offering her the role of Daisy Buchanan in his version of The Great Gatsby.

The 25-year-old, who looked stunning in a sequinned black dress and cape, will star as the manipulative heroine alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby.

Full marks were also due to the cast of Gossip Girl, who looked as stylish in real life as they do on the fashion-forward TV series.

Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf), chose an asymmetrical cream knee-length dress teamed with cut-out shoe-boots, while Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass) and Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald) looked relaxed yet dapper in their suits.
