In addition, Indigo has been a guest blogger for Fly Girl NY Fashion Week Blog which was featured in Vibe.com and Honey Magazine. Lastly, Indigo Charlie is a student of FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.)

1. What does fashion and music to you? –Music is such a big part of me. Music is the truest form of self-expression for me. It’s is an avenue for me to express all my feelings that I don’t usually share with anyone, whether they are dark, twisted, beautiful, and/ or moody. In regard to fashon, I am such a vintage lover! I love vintage because, for me, its like a time warp. It’s a beautiful feeling to be able to wear items that have memories imprinted in them, history, and stories. Fashion for me is a necessity, not a luxury. Fashion, like music is another form of expression and a way of life for me.

2. When did you realize you wanted to become a music artist? –My very “cliché” answer would be since I was a child, but it honestly became a true dream when I hit the stage for the first time in the 7th grade school chorus singing lead on Tina Turners “Proud Marry.” After years of begging, taking the time to find myself, and really knowing what kind of artist I wanted to be my mom gave full support on this journey last year. Ever since then we’ve been hitting the pavement hard and making my true dream and passion happen. I die. I’m blessed and thankful to have a mother who is making this happen with me. She’s been in the music industry for nearly 20 years, and her experience and relationships are fierce.

3. How long does it take to create the perfect song? -I’ve been recording music for just about a year, so I’m still green and learning. When it comes to a song, I am all about a vibe. Vibes are the most important thing to me. When it comes to the songs I’ve recorded so far, they have taken two to three months. My process with my producers The CoStars consists of vibing to music, talking about ideas, making a beat, writing, and then recording. I’m still learning melodies, so my writing process takes a little longer. Although it takes a little longer, I feel like I’m really learning and developing my artistry even more. So, to answer your question, for me at this point my music is taking 2-3 months per song…Part of that time is actually getting in the studio. I am a full time student at FIDM and intern in the fashion industry as often as I can, so between my schedule and The CoStars schedule, we don’t see each other as often as we NEED or WANT to. That has to change

4. How do you prepare for a music video? –Living with the song is the most important part of the creative process when it comes to a visual. I am a big fan of lighting and coloring when it comes to imagery. Before I even think of treatment I go over the colors and lighting that represents the song. As I settle on colors I come up with what I want my story to look like. The most important aspect to the process is when I bounce treatment ideas with my team, the combination of thoughts creates something beautiful. Once the treatment is all put together, we set a date and shoot. So far, the creative team for my visuals has been photographer Carmen Chan, my mom and myself. Oh yeah, and I diet, haha! 1 Gallon of green tea per day, no pasta and NO COOKIES (phooey).

5. What are some of your accomplishments as a music artist? –My biggest accomplishment would have to be doing music in the first place. I’m really blessed to be able to do what I love. I think my accomplishments are yet to come. Connecting to people through my music is a beautiful accomplishment. Music connects people and I’m glad I get to share my emotion. It’s really a beautiful thing. I’m in love with this….

6. Aside from creating music, what is your favorite fashion accessory during this time?
My favorite fashion accessory at this time is a shiny sequin jacket! I have been going sequin jacket crazy lately…I have 5 gorgeous ones I’ve found on recent vintage sprees and I’m addicted to them. Throw them on over a cute summer dress, some heels and you’re set…well, at least I am.

7. What matters to you the most as a music artist? -The words and the honesty of my music. I truly believe in putting out music that represents my insides. The connection with people is such a beautiful thing, but when all is said and done….I made this for me.

8. What is the future for Indigo Charlie? –Success. I refuse not to make it. My mom deserves a house in Spain with a pool boy and I’m going to give that to her. As for music I’m going to continue to work on my EP and begin shopping to labels. Hopefully next year, you will see me signed, performing, and creating even more music. Oh and COACHELLA. I’m putting that in the universe now. I want to perform at Coachella. I die.
