James Anthony Interview

1. What does fashion and photography mean to you?
Fashion photography is one of the biggest influences in photography. Just think about how many people buy things because of the imagery they see being used to market the product. Fashion photography is probably I think the most popular. But again, that's just my opinion.

2. When did you realize you wanted to become a photographer and how long have you been taking photos?
Back in 2004, I had received a Kodak Easyshare Camera as a gift. I started playing around shooting a friend of mine in the streets of Savannah, Ga. I took some shots in black and white and fell in love with the images. That's where it began.

3. How long does it take to complete a photo shoot?
It really depends on the concept of the shoot, how many models etc. The most lengthy process of a shoot is hair and make up. I've had shoots last only an hour and shoots last 10 hrs.

4. How do you prepare for a photo shoot or fashion show?
Research, research, research. Its imperative to know what you're shooting and how you can shoot the subject differently.

5. What are some of your accomplishments as a photographer?

Having my work published on a book cover and featured in magazines. It's nothing like seeing your work on a grand scale where everyone can view it. I had a spread of an actress from a hit HBO show published and got rave reviews from people in Bulgaria.

6. What is your favorite fashion accessory during this time?
I know it's cheesy, but it's this silver ring that doubles as a bottle opener (beer). It's cool because you cant tell what it is. I could even wear it with a suit. I like to always be ready to get the party started!

7. What matters to you the most as a photographer?
Making sure my images can convey an emotion. I want people to be able to look at my work and be sold on a story being told.

8. What is the future for James Anthony Photography?
My work can be seen in upcoming issues of Kontrol, RollingOut, and Jet magazines. As well as upcoming album and book covers.
