What are the latest nail trends for fall 2010 winter 2011?
Basically trends haven’t changed dramatically. This means that you can still use most lacquers you haven’t run out of, especially pastels. Short rounded nails in statement colors like burgundy (Nina Ricci), gold, dark gray (Rag & Bone) are very en vogue. Jade green nail polish has evolved and darkened so it’s advisable to buy a dark green nail polish.
How often should I paint my nails?
As rarely as possible – you may think it’s a joke but it’s a gospel truth. A manicure isn’t always good for your nails because for instance it involves a nail polish remover which can weaken your nails especially when based on acetone. A nail polisher isn’t better – rubbing nails can make them look perfect but when done too often I guarantee your nails will be totally out of condition. I always say – once in a week is enough as long as you remember to do the housework with rubber gloves on!
How come I paint my nails once in a week? A couple of days and my nail polish chips!
Don’t panic, it’s totally doable even at home. I’ve written about it here: manicure.
Okay so can I buy cheap lacquers?
Technically you always can but I wouldn’t recommend it. Cheap lacquers can be loaded with substances that can potentially damage your nails. This is a smart investment – a good quality nail polish will be easier to paint, it will look better, dry faster and last longer. IMHO the best affordable nail polishes are produced by O.P.I. and Sally Hansen.
