Vintage Shopping with a Modern Twist

Vintage shopping is a great way to have quality pieces while saving a bundle of money on clothing. Fashion girls can own a beautiful cashmere sweater for half the price of purchasing at a department store! But before we run to our nearest consignment shop, there are some important tips to consider when you're vintage shopping (for a modern twist).

Number one, always keep up with the latest trends so you will know what to search for once you're in a second hand store. I am making this suggestion because you don't want to look like a Madonna flashback when you're really trying to express a love for leg warmers! Number two, for fashion girls to truly enjoy vintage shopping, she must know her personal style. I am not talking about dressing like a carbon copy of your favorite celebrity! But really know your fashion likes and dislikes to have a great shopping experience (my personal style is very classic, polished, and feminine). And lastly, please search for imperfections or any damage to the garment. Vintage shopping can be very disappointing if you've purchased a suede skirt only to discover that it has a ripped lining.

I acquired my love for vintage shopping from the following women: Georiga Murphy (grandmother), Barbara Holder...A TRUE RECESSIONISTA (mommy), Gloria Murphy...the ORIGINAL VINTAGE FASHION GIRL (aunt) and Marilyn Dixon...A CLASSIC DIVA (aunt). Also, the Historic Costume Collection at Alabama A&M University became my muse while completing my graduate degree (you have to love a dress from the 1950's).

Check out a few of my personal vintage pieces below! Please keep in mind that I am not a professional photographer...smile

P.S.

Enjoy your vintage items longer by finding a dry cleaners that does great alterations!
